  • Abstract
As cities become increasingly congested, new housing areas are relocating further from the city center while the employment center concentrates or develops in the suburbia or fringe. The mean commuting distance increases in either case resulting in longer journeys to work, stressful commuting to the work place and heavy investments in constructing the transportation infrastructure. This paper examines the emerging factors such as transportation and travel problems, urban concentration, environmental concern, surge in the female workforce, investment in road infrastructure, and information technology assets which tend to re-emphasize the need for alternative work arrangement such as teleworking in Malaysia. Ongoing research on teleworking in Malaysia is highlighted
