  • Abstract
Some considerations to apply multibeam satellite communication systems to the broadband integrated services digital network (B-ISDN) are presented. The requirements and preferred system configuration for the multibeam satellite-switched (SS)-time division multiple access (TDMA) satellite communication systems applied to B-ISDN are studied. A new synchronization control scheme is proposed to overcome the demerits of a conventional synchronization control scheme applied to an SS-TDMA system. Its performance is evaluated by analysis. A new conversion protocol from the asynchronous transfer mode to the TDMA mode is proposed and evaluated to assure the quality of the cell delay variation. It is shown that the proposed protocol has the advantage of decreasing the required bandwidth for variable bit-rate services
