Abstract :
In this review we discuss the steps that are necessary to proceed from understanding the inception and evolution bearing faults, caused chiefly by bearing currents, and the advantages of the accurate estimation of the remaining useful life over fault detection. We discuss the measurements used and the procedures and methods that have been developed so far. We identify what we consider to be the necessary next steps and the open questions that exist, as well as what we consider necessary actions to establish tools and methods for the reliable estimation of remaining useful life of bearings using measurements of different characteristics and costs.
