Abstract :
The authors propose a simplified evaluation of the individual mean waiting time for bursty multiclass traffic such as voice, data and video in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) systems, characterizing the bursty inputs by the Markov modulated Poisson process (MMPP). By applying the method, characterization of bursty traffic such as voice and video is presented. Numerical examples are included which demonstrate good accuracy of the approximation in less computer time compared with the exact solution and simulation
