Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. We present the computer-aided modelling and analysis of a three-phase hysteresis synchronous motor used in the gyroscope as the gyro-rotor drive motor. A computer program is developed for the performance analysis of the hysteresis motor. The program accounts for all known losses in the hysteresis motor. The simulation program is tuned by incorporating the results obtained from a detailed finite element (FE) analysis of the motor for various configurations. Results of the analysis carried out are presented. The flow chart of the simulation program and the results of the parametric analysis conducted to study the effects of various machine constants and input parameters on the performance of the motor are also given. The simulated results of a three- phase, 36 V, 400 Hz, 6000 rpm, hysteresis motor developed for a gyroscope, are consistent with the measured values. Results of the special investigations carried out to enhance the starting torque by increasing the eddy current torque during the starting of the motor are given. This enhanced starting torque enables the motor to do away with the requirement of providing higher voltage during starting, thereby increasing-the reliability of the gyroscope. Results of a detailed study conducted to identify the harmonic torque components in the developed motor are given. It is seen that the net torque available with a six-pulse inverter supply is only 92.89% of that with a sinusoidal supply.
