Abstract :
Gigabit per second (Gbps) transmission rates place new demands on nodal protocols. The authors proposed a novel parallel processing based architecture that can realize significant gains in throughput without substantially altering the protocols and presented a receiver design capable of handling Gbps rates (see Proc. of SIGCOMM 90). They extend that architecture to incorporate a transmitter section using similar concepts. The key problems posed by a parallel processing architecture are reviewed along with the solutions. The simulation model and simulation results under varying load and traffic conditions are described
