Abstract :
One of main goals of companies is gaining maximum profits. To simplify, it may be assumed that the profits are gained through meeting customers´ demands with minimum costs. The profits of a certain company are determined by many factors including effective organization of the company´s logistics system. Transport processes, inventory management, production and sales plans realization are particularly important. Effective transport system is supposed to assure fluency in current order realization with minimum costs and high customer service level. Most companies use road transport which is connected with route planning and selection of appropriate vehicles. Improper management of transport processes has an essential influence on inventory management and may result in serious financial consequences. Therefore, it is important for the company to establish proper relations between the production plan and delivery time-table. In the article the authors are offering a solution to rationalize the transport system in a service company. The solution refers to co-modality (effective utilization of one or more transport modes) which is propagated by the European Commission. The example presented in the paper shows advantages for both the company located in Wielkopolska and the region itself.
