Abstract
A new magnetooptical readout head able to read several hundreds of tracks on a magnetic tape and a corresponding multitrack write head have been developed. The main characteristics of this new channel are presented. The readout device delivers a multiplexed sequence of asynchronous samples of each track. The signal processing digital features are discussed. Different modulation algorithms are compared on this channel
