Abstract
This paper analyzes the packet error rate (PER) in both mobile networks and cellular systems under interference-limited conditions. The analysis characterizes the time-varying signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) in the fading channels. First, the level crossing rate (LCR) and the average outage duration (AOD) of SIR are derived. The derivation leads to a new Markov model that classifies the propagation conditions into two exclusive states: one represents the condition that SIR is greater than a certain threshold. Next, PER is analytically derived on the basis of the model. The results show that the PER performance of the ad-hoc network is almost the same as that of the cellular system.
