Abstract :
Summary form only given. In the process of preparing FirstEnergy to enter into the MISO market, several challenges had to be met to achieve a successful Day 2 implementation. Listed are several of the challenges and opportunities that needed addressed: Evaluation of existing communication hardware to meet regulation. Evaluate interface needs of FirstEnergy software to market software. Submit data and tested for SCUC. Training of dispatch operators to interpret market rules. Developing strategy of must run vs. dispatch of select units. Collect unit cost and scrub data for all generating units for cost based bidding time frame. Review of all tariffs to address concerns/interview of filings. Intensive effort in back office support to accommodate settlements. Efforts to unwind FirstEnergy control area forecast to an individual operating company forecast. Training of plant operations on market dynamics. Attempt to gain understanding of generation in a new market (i.e. fuel planning).
