Abstract :
the effectiveness of power up and down registration scheme implemented in CDMA mobile systems (CMS) is proved by comparing the system load of registration and paging with a zone based scheme. It is shown that power up and down registration makes the system load lighter and distributed over cells in a location area. It is also shown that power up and down registration makes the system load less sensitive to the traffic and the size of the location area. Also, an optimal size of a location area is suggested which minimizes the bandwidth cost incurred by the registration and paging load
