Abstract
Summary form only given. In order to achieve a high-density perpendicular recording system, signal processing techniques are indispensable (J. Moon and L.R. Carley, IEEE Trans. Magn., vol. 26, no. 6, 1990). However, the performance of various detectors, except for the PRML system, is not fully evaluated at present. In this paper, the performances of detectors with d=1 constraint are investigated for perpendicular recording systems under the assumptions of nonlinear distortion, and their performance is discussed in terms of (1) equalizer mean squared error (MSE) and (2) noise power spectra at the discrimination point.
