Abstract
Summary form only given. Perpendicular magnetic recording is expected to be an efficient recording system, and various studies have been made on signal processing techniques as well as heads and media. The PRML system is one of the most effective techniques. However, it is considered that the dominant jitter-like noise in the perpendicular recording channel degrades the BER performance of PRML systems. Therefore, we propose a Viterbi detector which can cancel the jitter-like noise by using an autoregressive (AR) model (A. Kavcic and A. Patapoutian, IEEE Trans. Magn., vol. 35, no. 5, pp. 2316-2318, 1999), and show that our PRML system has a good BER performance in the perpendicular magnetic recording channel.
