  • Abstract
The issue of energy saving is one of the most critical issues for mobile device. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme to trade off the energy saving, QoS satisfaction, and resource utilization for the radio resource scheduling of downlink traffic in LTE. The proposed scheme takes not only the QoS requirements into consideration but also the channel conditions of user equipment (UE) for better spectrum efficiency. Furthermore, under the QoS constraint, the proposed scheme adopts the burst scheduling concept with respect to the state transition of energy consumption and properly adjusts the inactivity timer to achieve better energy utilization. In order to examine the performance of the proposed scheme, two different traffic models, http and video streaming services, were adopted for exhaustive simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme has great achievement in energy saving when compared to the traditional scheme.
