Abstract :
It is technically practical to apply electricity storage to wind generation to improve availability, to increase the amount of wind generation that may be installed on the grid without risking system voltage instability, to increase throughput of existing grid infrastructure, and to yield various ancillary benefits such as reduced system losses and improved power factor control. The integrated approach of applying energy storage to wind generation also yields economic returns in specialized cases such as island systems and wind farm repowering projects with paybacks and rates of return that may be commercially attractive.
