  • Abstract
This article presents three problems related to the most accepted definition of apparent power. The IEEE standard 1459 promotes the most updated and useful expression of apparent power. The discrepancies between the results obtained using the expression given in IEEE standard 1459 and the expressions obtained from the parallel European standards are insignificant for practical power systems. Two major issues remain to be answered: first, the effect of the neutral current on the value of the apparent current, and the second is the issue of the way of the apparent voltage is defined. The type of energy conversion should be considered.
