Abstract :
Experimental results obtained by microstimulation of parallel and climbing fibers (PFs and CFs) are presented. Experiments were carried out on an isolated frog cerebellum. The experiments show the changes in PF bundle stimulation efficiency in relation to a monosynaptic PC (Purkinje cell) response. CF stimulation not followed by PF stimulation leads to a reduction in PF-PC synapse efficiency in every experiment. But the combination of CF and PF simulations produces an initial reduction and subsequent increase in PF-PC synapse efficiency. Thus, the results obtained suggest that PF-PC synapse efficiency could be increased after joint activation of climbing and parallel fibers
