Abstract :
The identifiability of functions describing nonlinear radiation and source terms in the one-dimensional heat equation is considered. It is shown that a monotone sequence of temperature measurements on one boundary is sufficient to determine a unique piecewise linear function which yields the desired temperature response. As a consequence, it is shown that the temperature can be controlled by this piecewise linear function. Numerical results are presented
