Abstract
For low power, low cost application of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive system, the costs for the power switches, the control and the sensing of the rotor position circuits are to be minimized for cost efficiency. This paper suggests a novel SRM drive scheme which has a self regulating capability of torque at a constant speed with simple control circuits. The phase current of the motor is flat-topped to reduce torque ripple. The test results show that the suggested control scheme has good speed regulation features and is advantageous for the low cost application
