Abstract :
It has been found that the identified neurons of invertebrates may be used for a detailed experimental study of information processes in neurons with several trigger zones. The identified neurons of the snail, Helix lucorum were investigated. The electrical activity of neurons was recorded simultaneously in the soma (intracellularly) and in the axonal branches (extracellularly) of one and the same neuron. Neuron morphology was examined by the modified method of iontophoretic cobalt injection after electrophysiological investigation. The experimental data indicate that the unitary function may be fulfilled not only by the neuron in general but also by its constituent parts, i.e., the axon and dendritic branches. The possibility of independent functioning of axonal and dendritic branches is determined by extra trigger zones and selective sources of their activation
