  • Abstract
This paper studies the application of remote instrumentation to the manufacturing domain. The paper starts by introducing remote instrumentation requirements for an assembly-type manufacturing unit. This paper demonstrates an integrated remote instrumentation approach for realizing these requirements without limiting the scope to a wired environment with fixed stations for data access. The main body of the paper shows how these requirements can be met by building applications using a mobile application framework. It also shows how the framework can be extended for the manufacturing domain to maximize reuse in the development of similar applications throughout this domain, thereby minimizing development time. A proof of concept application is also developed, as part of this work, which shows the feasibility of the proposed solution.
