Abstract
In this paper, a new fractal loop antenna based on 2nd iteration of a proposed fractal curve is presented and optimized for passive UHF RFID tags at 900 MHz. The performance of the proposed fractal loop is compared with that of a standard Koch loop based on 2nd iteration of Koch fractal curve using IE3D simulator. The simulation showed that the proposed fractal loop has better radiation characteristics and higher read range than the standard Koch fractal loop antenna and has smaller size. Experimental results showed a good agreement with the simulation values. The effect of different materials on antenna performance also studied and the proposed fractal loop showed almost a constant performance when attached to those materials.
