Abstract
Intellectual property (IP) is the most valuable asset a company has, and communication is at the heart of IP protection. Therefore, it behooves communicators to know enough about IP to ask the right questions before beginning work on an assignment. Communicators who are knowledgeable can play an important role in IP protection: they can alert the inventor to some of the pitfalls along the way; and they can become another safety net in the chain of IP protection
