Abstract :
This paper gives an overview of the PDC mobile packet data communication system (PDC-P), which is based on the PDC system. The PDC (personal digital cellular telecommunication system) is standardized in Japan as the digital mobile communication system. The PDC-P enables PDC users to send and receive packet data in the connectionless environment for multimedia mobile communication. As the first step, PDC-P provides users with the TCP/IP protocol. The PDC-P network supports the IP and has the capability of connecting with the Internet. First, we describe the characteristics of the PDC-P. In the PDC-P network, a user packet channel on the radio interface is shared by multiple users, affording each user a data transfer rate of up to about 30 kbit/s. The PDC-P mobile station has the capability of waiting for both voice call incoming and packet data incoming at the same time. Next, we describe the PDC-P network configuration. The PDC-P network is produced by adding packet communication capabilities to each PDC network node. Then, we propose a PDC-P protocol configuration. Finally, we present a procedure for packet communications between a PDC-P user and Internet as a sample application
