Abstract
The authors describe how, by means of artificial intelligence tools, which are relatively consolidated, such as fuzzy logic and representation of knowledge by means of frames, it is possible to solve a number of problems related to measurements and the first interpretation of behavior of particular systems. Systems featuring normally relatively simple methods and measurement procedures become particularly complex because of a great number of influent causes which are inseparably present. An overview of the advantages and opportunities which such an approach may provide in the realization of a new monitoring and control system in an emerging application such as water treatment, is given
