  • Abstract
Current optical networks offer high-speed circuits with wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission and wavelength routing. WDM enables a single fiber strand to carry several wavelengths. Each wavelength can carry data at a speed of 10-40 Gigabits per second. By maturing this technology, there is a need to develop more advanced light-path provisioning algorithms for distributed, dynamic multi-domain circuit- switched interconnection at very large speeds. In this paper, a hierarchical routing GMPLS-based framework for provisioning all-optical WDM network is presented. The scheme adapts various topology abstraction schemes to improve routing scalability and lower inter-domain blocking probabilities. Related inter-domain light-path RWA and signaling schemes are also tabled.
