About the Internet as ITS

The Miyagi Prefectural Police HQ developed and installed its own Internet server at its traffic control center with a view to secure safe and smooth traffic within the prefecture by providing various types of traffic-related information, including traffic regulations required for securing emergency transport routes in case of a large-scale disaster and in connection with various special events to be held within the prefecture. The traffic control center has been providing traffic-related information through the Internet since July 1997 and producing a favorable result. Based on this idea of using Internet for providing traffic information, the Police HQ examines the possibility of developing an Internet-based traffic information provision system as an intelligent transport system (ITS) and conditions for adapting the system as an ITS
