  • Abstract
The electronic toll collection (ETC) enables nonstop toll collection at tollgates, which is expected to reduce traffic jams at tollgates. We investigated the effect of introducing the ETC by traffic amount analyses using a simulator. As a result, it will be most effective to introduce the mixed lanes available to both non-ETC vehicles and ETC vehicles and switch the type of lanes between conventional/mixed/ETC-vehicle-only lanes in accordance with the traffic volume and percentage of ETC vehicles
