Abstract :
This paper includes a basic study of the operating performance of a load commutated power converter drive with AC excitation. Such a drive scheme is well-suited for mine winder modernisation, because to apply this system to an existing winder, a new motor is not required. Electromagnetic phenomena in the stator and rotor circuits of the drive is described by a set of nonlinear differential equations. Using simplified analytical solutions of the motor equations under steady-state conditions, calculation formulae are obtained that give a complete set of steady state performance characteristics of the drive.
