Abstract
A three-active-switches voltage-fed current controlled inverter is proposed for three-phase induction motor drives. Each phase of the induction motor can be controlled by only one active switch. It is seen that application of the proposed inverter will result in a constant rotating field with purely sinusoidal waveform. Hence the motor can run smoothly in wide speed range without incurring torque oscillation. In addition to the fewer switches used, implementation of the inverter is also very simple. Hence, the cost of the proposed inverter can be reduced.
