Abstract
Proposes and investigates a spread spectrum (SS) system with interference canceller which can realize both ranging and communication between vehicles for intelligent transport systems. This is an extended case from a previously proposed SS ranging and communication system between the roadside and a vehicle (Takeda et al., 1998). Since each vehicle transmits SS signals with equal power, the received communicating signal from another vehicle prevents detection of the reflected ranging signal. Therefore, the proposed system cancels the communicating signal in order to achieve accurate detection of the reflected signal for determining ranging distance between vehicles. Performance of ranging and bit-error-rate is analyzed by computer simulations
