Abstract :
A fully integrated, solid state, energy transfer switch assembly is presented. The assembly has a peak forward and reverse voltage rating of 30 kV and a peak current rating of 20 kV - other possible ratings using the same approach are discussed. The switch is constructed using series connected gate turn off (GTO) thyristors, which are optimised for pulse power applications. The design philosophy is discussed along with details of the device ratings and testing carried out. Some potential applications for this technology are also considered.
