Abstract :
This paper provides an overview of the IEEE421.3-1997 standard for high potential test requirements for excitation systems for synchronous machines. This paper highlights changes from the previous standard, IEEE142B such as the expanded test voltages which account for stresses associated with high ceiling exciters. The paper also describes and compares the tests required by other associated standards such as those for high potential testing of synchronous of generators.
