Abstract
Implementation of a 1-MHz switchmode control IC for DC-to-DC conversion in single-cell lithium ion (3- to 4.2-V) applications using an ultra-fast CBiC/D technology is demonstrated. The combination of low-threshold CMOS and high-speed bipolars (3 GHz NPN, 800 MHz PNP) is used to realize a high-speed comparator, 25-MHz error amplifier, and low propagation output delay output buffer at low operating currents. A low-profile, small footprint synchronous Buck converter with excellent ripple and transients response illustrates the benefits of operation at high clock rates
