Abstract :
Several assessments of such large-scale environmental concerns have been conducted. One was the National Acid Precipitation Assessment Program (NAPAP), which guided the drafting of the Clean Air Act. These efforts have come to be referred to as integrated assessments. In the United States, the concept of an integrated assessment has been strongly supported by the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources and by the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Despite these endorsements (and political calls to require integrated assessments of major environmental concerns), the concept of what an integrated assessment is is still hazy. The author discusses the planning of an integrated assessment and its documents
