Abstract :
The pulsed high voltage discharge in water and phenol degradation properties of three different types of reactors, which have rod-rod, rod-plate and wire-cylinder electrode constructions, were studied. Of the three types of reactors, it was found that the phenol removal efficiency was highest for the wire-cylinder electrode system. In addition, the influence of pulse energy on removal efficiency was investigated. The removal treatment without arc discharge is more efficient than that with it. This result suggests that arc discharge is not necessary for high-efficiency treatment. Furthermore, the effect of added hydrogen peroxide on phenol removal efficiency was also studied. It was found that the phenol degradation rate was higher in the presence of hydrogen peroxide.
