Abstract :
This paper presents the results of the test carried out in Miyazaki city, Japan, where the vehicle occupancy rate at the same point was measured by an ultrasonic vehicle detector against an image sensor with video tape recorder. The test was conducted on the basis of the occupancy values generated by normal and large sized vehicles obtained from the VTR recordings, and compared the values measured by the ultrasonic vehicle detector and image sensor respectively. Consequently, it was concluded that the method comparing basic the values from VTR should be used for measurement of vehicle occupancy rate
