Abstract :
The authors have developed a digital voice terminal which combines a modem and codec. It has proved successful for HF communication in the field. The digital voice terminal is composed of a voice codec, a modem, an interface circuit, and a power supply unit. The frequency division multiplexed and differential quadriphase shift keying (FDM-DQPSK) modem has a modulation rate of up to 2400 bps. The codec is a channel vocoder. The terminal is described with emphasis on the modulation/demodulation method, the coding/decoding system and the system configuration of the terminal.<>
