  • Abstract
To overcome drawbacks of detection methods based on the instantaneous reactive power theory, the concept of power factor was introduced into the control system of an active power filter. In this paper, the harmonic and reactive current detection technique based on unity power factor was proposed and analyzed in detail. This technique is applicable to various circuit topologies and is valid when power sources or loads are unbalanced. To verify the proposed concept, a DSP controlled prototype of shunt active has been built. The experimental results verified the theoretical analysis satisfactorily, which demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
