Abstract :
This paper introduces an operation monitoring and fault diagnosis system (OMFDS) based on CANBUS and optical fiber connection. It is designed for a ±50 MVAr cascade STATCOM system. According to voltages, currents and other data collected via CANBUS network, it can accurately determine operating conditions of the STATCOM system and provide comprehensive real-time supervision. This OMFDS has been proved successful in the ±50 MVAr cascade STATCOM system, and could be easily adapted to other FACTS/DFACTS devices.
