Abstract
This panel paper presents an example of interaction between different open source projects, namely PSAT and OSGIS. PSAT is a well-known applications for power system analysis, while OSGIS is a suite of tools for geographical information system (GIS) drawing, analysis and visualization. The main purpose of the paper is to show that the open-source philosophy is suitable for producing, in a much shorter period of time, surprising and interesting results. In particular, we show an application for visualizing geographical maps of power systems with inclusion of information on electrical quantities (e.g., voltage levels). An example based on the Italian HV transmission system is presented and discussed in detail.
