Abstract :
Following previous studies on stator and rotor field orientation for low power drives, the simplification of air gap field oriented control methods was investigated for induction motor drives with voltage-source inverters. Firstly, a general control law for voltage input is established using input-output linearization. This sophisticated procedure is then the subject of simplification steps, leading to control algorithms of decreasing complexity. Such solutions were especially devised for economy in low power drives. The steady state performance is analytically studied as well as the sensitivity to the variation of parameters. Dynamic behaviour is also analysed. The results obtained for stator, rotor and air-gap flux reference frames are globally compared with other known methods eligible for the same purpose, and show an attractive compromise between performance and complexity. Experimental results are reported from a prototype implemented with a single eight-bit microcontroller.
