Abstract
The Mexican utility (Comision Federal de Electricidad) reports contamination as the second cause of outages of transmission lines. To get further experience with other insulation alternatives, silicone rubber (HTV) polymeric insulators replaced the conventional insulators of a 230 kV line. This line is located in a highly polluted area by both industrial and saline pollution. The results of field performance and laboratory evaluation are presented in this paper
