Abstract :
A predictive PI controller is a simple but elegant reincarnation of a Smith predictor for low-order linear time-invariant processes with long dead times. Initially, the PPI was introduced for first-order plus dead time processes but it equally applies to integrating processes requiring no modifications to satisfy offset-free stationary control for load disturbances. Furthermore, the PPI controller is easy to implement on the top of a PI algorithm and relatively simple to tune as it has no more parameters than a PID controller. In this paper, extension of the PPI controller is introduced particularly suitable for regulation of integrating processes with dead times.
