Abstract :
We introduced a new portable instrument for online detection of faulty insulator strings on high voltage transmission lines in this paper. It is based on pattern recognition of the corona discharge fingerprint of an insulator string, operating on ground under towers. Some laboratory tests and field experiments indicated that this technique could be developed as a useful tool for field tests
