  • Abstract
This paper presents an improved three-level zero-voltage-switching pulse-width-modulating (TL-ZVS-PWM) DC-DC power converter, which can operate from no load up to full load. This is possible thanks to the presence of two auxiliary commutation circuits. The proposed power converter has been conceived from TL-ZVS-PWM DC-DC converter presented previously by the authors (1993). However, that power converter has only one commutation auxiliary circuit, so ZVS commutation is not guaranteed when the available commutation current is null. To overcome this problem, a second commutation auxiliary circuit has been incorporated in the power converter. The proposed TL-ZVS-PWM DC-DC power converter is suitable for high voltage input applications. Principles of operation, theoretical analysis and experimental results are presented. A prototype of the TL-ZVS-PWM DC-DC power converter operating at 100 kHz and 1.5 kW output power has been tested and implemented in the laboratory
