Abstract :
Based on the simulation of contaminant deposit, hydrophobicity status and wetting process in the laboratory, an artificial pollution test method suitable for composite insulators is recommended in this paper. It is found that hydrophobicity status and pollution level jointly determines composite insulator´s pollution performance. Neither of them can separately describe the overall pollution capability of the insulator. This suggests that composite insulators´ outdoor insulation evaluation in the field be achieved by regularly inspecting these two parameters
