Abstract
The performance of an all-informed net communications architecture which employs a distributed channel assignment scheme is considered using both analysis and simulation for a terrestrial radio environment. Simulation is carried out using a commercial protocol modelling tool and a novel technique is developed which reduces simulation times significantly. It is found that the call blocking performance of the architecture is determined largely by lognormal shadowing, if the number of nodes per net is large and it is required that all nodes can simultaneously receive voice calls. However, the call dropping performance is largely invariant to the number of nodes per net, providing there are at least 20 users per net
