Abstract :
The minimization of the capital expenditures associated to supporting services with different bandwidth requirements in an Optical Transport Network (OTN) demands accounting for transceiver cost and transmission performance when dimensioning the network. Developments in 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s transceiver technology will condition the relative cost and maximum optical reach of these devices. Hence, it becomes paramount for network operators and system vendors to model the impact of these features on network cost. This paper proposes a framework based on linear programming and heuristics for optimizing the dimensioning of OTN exploiting diverse multiplexing and routing techniques and using as input the relative cost and the maximum optical reach of transceivers at line rates of 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s.
