Abstract :
In view of requirement of ecology and environment, based on water and heat balance, a mathematical model was established for computation of the suitable oasis scale. It was shown by the model results the suitable area may be in the range of 6,080 to 7,690 km2, which was lower than the existed oasis area (8,420 km2). The suitable irrigation area in the Hotan oasis might be 146670-186670 ha. The existed irrigation area was 155330 ha and the irrigation area planned in future was 163330 ha, which was still within the suitable range. But water saving measures has to be carried out; otherwise water shortage will affect the sustainable development of economy and society of Hotan.
